David Croteau of Stoneyard.com
greets George Mabry and Roger Cook.

Host Michael Weishan and the WGBH Victory Garden television crew visited Stoneyard.com for first-hand advice on stonewall and retaining wall construction. The taped segment was part of a show that helped teach viewers about stone - its uses as an ornamental, functional and inspirational part of the garden.

The use of stone is part of a stunning redesign of the Victory Garden using new hardscape materials from Stoneyard.com. The Victory Garden team has completed the installation of a stone compass as the new centerpiece connecting its grass paths. Retaining walls are being added around the herb gardens, along with granite steps and a granite seat to complete the hardscape renovations. The plans can be viewed at www.victorygarden.org under the Victory Gardens link.

Stoneyard.com's craftsmanship was featured during the show when the specially created compass was shown and planted with thyme as a lesson on "softening stone." On a Victory Garden side trip to Stoneyard.com, Mr. Weishan discussed sources of stone and stonewall construction with David Croteau, co-owner of Stoneyard.com.

"We educate viewers where stone comes from and the different types that are available for building stonewalls and retaining walls." said David Croteau, "Then we show examples built from our extensive inventory. We are proud that our stone is part of the new Victory Garden design."
